The TVTA organizes a variety of hikes year round ranging from very easy to very difficult. In winter some cross country ski and snow shoeing outings are included. On the social side, our Annual General Meeting in the Fall usually includes a guest speaker who has had interesting hiking or trekking experiences to relate. Besides the annual summer barbecue, members will organize members-only pot luck suppers and social gatherings.
Read the Thursday Ticket section of the London Free Press every Thursday for a general weekly listing of hikes or cross-country journeys. These hikes are open to the public. TVTA membership is not required to go on a hike with us. There may be an admission fee to enter a park or conservation area, and passengers are expected to reimburse drivers in a carpool.
Please contact hike/ski leaders prior to event for further details (eg. hiking conditions, transportation, footware & clothing, the bringing of dogs or children, cancellations, etc...).
Trail Maintenance [TM] |
We do trail maintenance on about one half of the 110 kilometers or so of our trail. The rest is on city or other property where that organization takes care of the trail.
We have 15 to 20 TM outings each year. Most of these are for winter deadfall cleanup, mowing and trimming - without this work some sections of the trail would become impassable by mid-summer. We also have a Trail Captain team, and teams for trail blazing, bridges and boardwalks, and work requiring a chainsaw.
You are most welcome to volunteer to work with any of these teams. We have a WebSite at http://www.tvtatm.webs.com where you can learn more about trail maintenance, how it works, how it is scheduled, and where you can volunteer to help with this important work. |
